‘profoundly brilliant songwriting’
‘a strong and extremely promising start Fanning’s latest musical venture, of which, hopefully there is more sooner rather than later.’ – Barry Gruff
‘The first cut from it is Carmelita and it’s as intriguing and melodic as we could’ve hoped for.The pitch black lyrics are perfectly complimented by Fanning’s truly distinctive, Dublin-accented, baritone vocal – think Matt Berninger meets a more refined Luke Kelly.’ – Joe.ie
‘Think a tone in the Venn diagram between Nick Cave, Neil Hannon, Hozier and Johnny Cash, all treacly and smelling of roll up cigarettes and red wine. Singing of being strung out on Heroine and sitting at the back of the bus while the organ rages in the background gives this a confessional feel if Quentin Tarantino is reading this then you really ought to sign this guy up to do the music for the closing credits of your next film. Dark, delicious, steeped in pathos and with the swagger of a cowboy who has killed more people than he can remember so doesn’t even bother trying any more.’ – Listen With Monger
A.S. Fanning is a singer-songwriter from Dublin, Ireland, living in Berlin.
His first release is the single ‘Carmelita’, a stark and haunting picture of the darker side of Dublin City.
Fanning’s songs are particularly lyrically driven, taking inspiration from Irish literary tradition and folk music. But musically his influenced run from post-punk to country, blues and rock and roll.
As a multi-instrumentalist he has been in demand to play with acts such as Dublin troubadour The Mighty Stef, Berlin Industrial Electro outfit Suzies Ashes, and Irish songstress Candice Gordon, most recently producing and playing on Gordon’s soon to be released debut LP.
His debut album ‘Second Life’ was released on Proper Octopus Records in October 2017 with a tour in Ireland.
